Epson Adjustment Program: virus warning, communication error, no port selectable — how to fix
Updated 2026-07-07 · VNIT — 10 years repairing printers & laptops · Nationwide support
You downloaded the Adjustment Program (AdjProg) to reset your Epson printer, but it gets flagged as a virus and deleted by Windows, throws a communication error when you click reset, or shows no selectable Port? These are the most common walls people hit doing it themselves. Here is why they happen and how to fix each — and if you are still stuck, VNIT resets it remotely, From 150,000₫ (~US$6), pay only after it prints again.
AdjProg flagged as a virus and auto-deleted
The Adjustment Program is unsigned software, so Windows Defender / antivirus often blocks and deletes it — sometimes a false positive, but many builds from shady sources really do carry malware. Do not simply disable all protection to run a random file: you risk data loss and infection. The safe route is a correct, model-specific build from a trusted source, or let VNIT reset it with its own licensed tool — you never download an unknown file to your PC.
Communication error / I/O error when you click reset
- Connected over Wi-Fi: many reset tools only work reliably over a USB cable — plug in USB directly and retry.
- Printer busy / stuck: power the printer off, unplug for 30 seconds, power on; clear any pending print jobs.
- Wrong model build: running another model's AdjProg cannot communicate — you need the exact build for your machine.
- Driver problem: uninstall and reinstall the official Epson driver for the correct model.
No Port / USB Port selectable
This usually means Windows has not recognised the printer on the right port: make sure the printer is on, the USB cable is good (try another USB port), and the printer shows with the correct name under Devices & Printers. Reinstalling the correct model driver usually restores the Port. If it stays empty, try another computer to rule out a faulty USB port.
“Serial number… error”, or it resets but still errors
Sometimes the tool reports a serial-number error, or the reset finishes but the printer still blinks — common causes are selecting the wrong counter (main vs platen pad), using the 80% trial, or the machine simply cannot be reset in software (hard-locked chip box). See the 80% trial, still blinking after reset, and the hard-locked C9345 box.
