Every Epson line handles the waste ink pad error (“ink pad end of service life”) a little differently: some reset with Adjustment Program, some require WIC + a paid key, and some need the maintenance box replaced. Look up your model in the table below to find the right method — and avoid buying the wrong key or downloading the wrong tool.
How to read the table
Every Epson has a waste-ink box/reservoir. What decides whether it can be reset or must be replaced is whether that box HAS a chip or NOT — see the “Waste-ink box” column:
- Box without chip — the box just holds waste ink, the counter lives in firmware → a software reset is all you need (AdjProg, or WIC + key depending on model).
- Box with chip — the maintenance box has a chip storing a counter. Software can reset the pad counter in the body; when the box is full it must be chip-reset or replaced (T04D1/C9344/T6711…).
- Chip box · must REPLACE — the box chip is hard-locked (C9345) → software can't reset it. Technically this group can still be handled three ways: re-activate the chip with a dedicated device, replace the chip on the box, or replace the whole maintenance box. What is the difference between a chipped and a chipless waste-ink box?
Every printer has a waste-ink box/reservoir, but they differ in whether there is a chip. A chipless box (most of L3110/L3210/L1210/L805…) is just a reservoir/sponge in the body; the counter is in firmware — so a software reset is enough; when the sponge is truly full you open the body to clean it or run a tube to an external waste tank. A chipped box (L4150/L6170, ET/WF series…, codes T04D1/C9344/T6711): the counter is on the box chip — software only resets the pad counter in the body, so when the box is full it must be chip-reset or replaced; the C9345 group and L6260/70/90 require a brand-new box.
